That's an unusual view of Staithes; is it taken from the slipway on the river? I like your loose approach, just find of or two roofs an bit "plonked on". Now there's a technical term for you!

Hi Diana It's not topographically accurate nor was it meant to be it's just an impression of the place. However it does retain some accuracy of a view towards the sea from the footbridge. I like the 'plonked on' roofs comment but I can assure you they have been firmly fixed by a repuatble local builder ;-) Thank you very much for taking the time to comment, it helps

Really like the colours in your painting and the style. A lot more interesting than a photographic study.

Love the carefree approach (although I know it probably took quite some work). Love the sky and whole impromtu nature of the painting. Has energy.

Watcha Alan, excellent bit of work, and all the better for not being topographically correct, look at the photo, put it to one side, then paint what you feel. The Chinese painters used to go out and look at a scene sveryday for a couple of weeks then go back to the studio and paint, sounds good to me. Best Micks Pics

This is an impression of Staithes I visited recently from a sketch I did there. Out of interest, whilst I was sketching a bloke came up to me and said he thought I was in his party. The bloke in a flat cap was I found out later the well know artist David Curtis and he was running a weekend painting course.
