Quarter imperial 11x15in, on Turner Grey hand-made paper.

I can't wait for your article! I saw the Late Turner exhibition at Tate Britain a few years ago and they had some sketches - wonderful. You have done a beautiful job here.

I saw this exhibition as well and I agree with Sarah. Is the article going to be in the next mag? I have the latest in front of me and I shall have a read of my mags today. I have been a bit distracted by current events. However, I have work lined up in my head so I shall be back on track soon!

Interesting Alan, like this sketch

A stunner Alan and I really like the look of the paper you have used.

Nice Turneresque painting Alan, lovely combination of colour and paper choices.

Very nice Alan and paper choice gives an extra wow 😏

Can’t wait Alan!

The grey really sets off the colours in your sketch.

Thanks everyone! Always appreciated, although not a great deal of interest in this one… It’s going in next years edition of TA Gudrun - I’ve not written it yet! I’m just working on some possibilities at present.

A super painting Alan. Very much in the style of Turner.

Superb Alan. I bought a book on Turner and his watercolours many many years ago, I actually prefer them to his oil paintings, I know, sacrilege!

Thanks guys! Yes, I absolutely agree with you Russell, I love the simplicity and immediacy of his sketches. Many unfinished, but still wonderful in their own right!

Beautifully painted Alan. Look forward to your article, I love Turners work lovely showing in Margate at the Turner Gallery a couple of years ago.

Lovely Alan!

What a good idea Alan - the paper works so well - I look forward to reading the article.

Lovely sketch, Alan, I especially like the paper you’ve used here.

This is lovely Alan. I look forward to the article.

Sounds interesting Alan will watch out for that. Love your beautiful sketch.

I’ll shortly be writing a feature for The Artist, based around JMW Turner’s sketch books which almost 300 are housed in the Tate - I’ll be examining his working methods, paints/palette and his hand-made tinted papers etc. with details about where you can source similar materials today - For research purposes, I’ll be working/copying from a selection of his sketches that particularly inspire me, I’ll also be demonstrating some of my own local plein air landscapes inspired by the style of Turner.
