Sunflower

Intriguing title. Great colours. Would like to know more!

70x70cm acrylic on canvas, I painted this as I live surrounded by fields of sunflowers every summer in France. Sooner or later I had to paint one, and this was done in 2012. Early in my artistic career I had been introduced to the flower paintings of american artist Georgia O' Keefe and loved her work. She was painting flowers in an abstract expressionist style and the flowers were painted as if from the view of an insect. Whilst I couldn't even begin to emulate her, I did want to paint in a big bold style, with a vibrancy of colour. I think that though I love texture I am probably best described as a colourist.The painting took nearly six weeks painting four days a week for 2-4 hours a day. The reason for so much time was painting the seed heads, it almost drove me mad. I'm glad you like Pod P. Thanks for your comment. The picture is for sale at £350.
