Here is the finished article and thanks again Splosh. I have only been there once maybe 20 years ago when we had a day to spare at the end of skiing in the Dolomites and it was a Festival time, so packed out and can't remember looking at the water. Some errors, in fact more like clumsiness these days have worked out beneficial as it happens, particularly on the right foreground planks. Not smooth as per the ref, but paint picked up the heel of my painting hand. Could be leaves, are there any in Venice close to the canals, but hey! so what.
Leaves, someone's spilled packed of crisps - it doesn't matter... it's all added detail, and what people will be looking at is your focal point. Like the colours, the details, and the restraint - was this mostly done with your cards, or is there more brush-work in this? Works well, anyway.
Thank you Marjorie and Robert. MOSTLY done with cards, the only brush work is the dome.
