Why oh why do people think artists are a soft touch ? Especially amateaurs like me. 1 have had paintings in an ongoing exhibition in a local hospital...a captive audience.   I have sold several paintings and been paid very quickly within two days and I happily donate to the league of friends no problem. BUT a local church needing a new bell tower sold some work two months ago...still waiting a payment.   I am always amazed that people expect summat for nowt and artists and crafts people are asked possiblybecause they think Oh well they do it for fun.   Yes I do but still pay for materials etc. I am always happy to give a commission / donation but am feeling a tad cross at the moment.  This is the first time ihave met this problem so a bit at odds...nice messages so far  but if you read in the local rag about a vicar having his ears boxed in a Welsh capel  by ageing artist you will know it is me.

Sylvia I am in complete agreement. As you say, even if you do "paint for fun" you still pay for materials, and your time is worth something too I think. Same goes for your lovely paintings. Worth following up with the church, seeing you've waited two months? And I do love the mental image of you boxing the vicar's ears!
Art and craft materials aren't getting any less expensive, the work you present for donation should at least cover the cost of the materials used. I always have radio Wales on, will keep my ears peeled for any reports . . . I haven't crafted cards for many years and to compare the prices now to 10/12 yrs ago, is quite shocking. Glad I kept my stuff tucked away, and didn't give it away. Got my stuff out last week and done a few Christmasy cards.
You could always try putting an advert in the Parish magazine politely explaining the situation about not being paid for your work. I would bet your debt is paid before it’s published.
Oh Andrew...do not put ideas into my head.
Maybe put a bill through the vicars door!
If all else fails tell him you will grass him up to the Bishop or higher , go on rattle his cage and ask him who you need to complain too bet you get the money within the same day. Trouble with some sky pilots ( military term ) they don’t seem to work on the same time scale as others.
My latest push seems to be producing communication if nothing else.   Though a God threat might help.
You could try prayer and cut out the middle man!?
Amen Tessa.
Father Ted kicking bishop Brennan, springs to mind.
Hasn't some Vatican  Cardinal  just  done for embezzlement..?  Father Ted is small fry.
