The subject was brought up yesterday by me regarding a person registering twice, and using that method to post 7 works (or photo's). That's not fair play in my book and thank goodness Dawn saw it in the same light as both myself and many others. It could have been accidental, but I would know if I had already registered; it takes time and I believe that it may have been deliberate, until someone tells me differently. Surely we don't want that practice to become the norm, our work disappears fast enough as it is. Luckily, the 70+ postings that Sylvia talks about were well before my time. That was the main issue, not the 4-a-day which as we are all aware is quite legitimate, irrespective of what many of us may feel about that.
Frankly Id rather havr seventy interesting paintings in one day than seventy boring repetitious images of the same variation on a theme over seventy days . Thankfully, both are rarities. D
Jim/Wanderer69 makes an important point " All anyone is doing is displaying their enthusiasm for art amongst like minded souls on a free, organised and well run website". Clearly there are those with time and enthusiasm who can and do produce 3 or 4 new paintings per day - and there are 2 or 3 whose daily contributions I look forward to. I'd be surprised if any professional artist had such an output and when one does come across 4 a day every day from a new member, one wonders about the motive for posting an entire portfolio - though I too have been guilty of posting a back catalogue, though at a more sedate rate. I find serial multiple postings by clearly professional artists a turn off, which can be a shame. There is one, in my view, very talented professional artist who started by posting 4 a day every day, but now posts less frequently but regularly, and her pictures are a delight - less is definitely more.. Enjoyment, is the key concept. But although I have been posting on the site for only 3 years, it has become noticeably more difficult to go back and take a second look, or continue a conversation by comment, or even just to keep track of new postings. For those of us who are amateurs and for reasons of confidence or opportunity limit our "exhibitions" to the POL site, the feedback is both welcoming and supportive, as well as being a gallery to inspire and challenge, but returning to find a painting to is increasingly difficult. Imagine going to the National Gallery and not being able to find a particular painting! One should also remember that although the site is free to use, it still costs The Artists Publishing Company to maintain the site and store the the images (approaching 128,000 now). Some improved search options would enhance the site, but they cost money to develop. We should be grateful that TAPC makes the site available in the first place, and do our best to encourage them to continue. They make the rules and we should follow them. I am happy with an "allowance" if it keeps the gallery live - even if the volume of postings means the allowance does get reduced. But bending/abusing the rules, or even deceiving people by posting photographs, will do nothing to encourage TAPC. With around 50+ new postings a day, I doubt Dawn has the time to monitor systematically the gallery, or the blogs and forum for abuse. Heaven forbid that abuse becomes so common that a "warden" is needed, but I see nothing wrong with drawing attention, in comments. blogs, or emails to TAPC, to those who, for reasons of ego or commercial gain, overstep the mark.
I'd be doing well if I produced four new paintings a month - but I don't feel any compulsion to, others differ. There's a four a day rule, that's easy to understand, and while there could be a completely innocent explanation for having two accounts (eg, you forgot you had one, couldn't be bothered with retrieving the password, or had changed your email address and found the site wasn't being too helpful in logging-in again - that could well be the case: I had a Freeserve email adress before EE went and killed all of their email accounts, and as I remember it did cause me a few problems on a number of sites including this one) it's reasonable to ask people to stick to the one account. I've never felt that strongly about limiting the number of postings, other than on the one occasion Sylvia mentioned (and THAT all began in a misunderstanding on the part of someone who hadn't realized that everything she posted would land up on the gallery in the same place on the same day) because the more people who display their work here, the more quickly others will be shunted off the front page, and I don't really see what can be done about that. But - you join a site, you observe its rules, that's all. Leave us not get into a fantod about it..... (I like to leave you with a word you have to grope in the dictionary to find....)
Using your skill and judgement, Sylvia, you will surely be able to insert the word into almost any social setting, now that I have advised you of its existence. But there's no need to thank me. A cigar will do. In fact, to be honest, a cigar will nearly always do, whatever the circumstances. Gin helps as well. I leave it with you. One does not wish to fall into idle rannygazoo, after all. Now does one?
Robert, I wish you'd be careful with these odd words. I suffer from hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia which is not easy to spell or say, and can, as you'll know, be very debilitating. Lew.
Three new words - like it!
Yes I too noticed that some-one has read alang23's comment and straddled the midnight line already. Quite legitimate though!

I want to swear long and loudly. I'm all for the four per day rules, but I never post them all at once. Something I posted at 9-0'clock this morning is now well on its way to Page 2 of the Gallery due to people whacking in with all four at once and it's only 11'oclock. I don't need praise, I post for interest and often get people to join in threads, but flooding the site in this way is irritating to say the least. Okay, rant over...😆
Now that I'm using coloured pencils I'm lucky if I produce one in a week! They are much more time consuming than watercolours but I am enjoying learning about them, there is actually an awful lot of things to learn which I was unaware of!!!!
Jim I really appreciate the way in which you post your paintings, not all four at once. For some strange reason I find it easier to appreciate them when they are not all together. I leave a comment on some but don't try to cover all four. Although you are not looking for praise I still think it is good that people express appreciation of your work. Margaret I really love what you are doing with the coloured pencils. A set someone ordered on my behalf arrived yesterday, these are watercolour pencils so some of the "awful lot of things to learn" will be a bit different in my case. I have a useful book out from the library and have been looking on YouTube as well, but if you know of any really useful online videos please say.
Tao, I will also have a look at your suggestion. Sandra, I've never had much luck with watercolour pencils, I must try them again. It depend,s of course, on what you are planning to paint. I have a few names you could look at:- Xaylia Fine Art, Kirsty Partridge, Amie Howard Art, Martines Fine Art, Wild Portrait Artist and Cassandra Hanley. All of these are marvellous artist, well I think so!!🙂
