I suppose it all depends upon how seriously one takes the whole thing (seriously doesn't have to mean lacking in fun). This is perhaps reflected in the fact that the hosts of this site publish two magazines, one called The Artist and the other called Leisure Painter. For myself I approach my drawing and painting as a study; I frequently put myself in the position, psychologically speaking, of being a student again. One big difference from my time at art college is that I'm working alone much of the time and I can't wander off to the caff down the street with my mates for a mug of tea and a bacon sandwich.
