Plate 54, an idealized portrait of Homer.
This seemed a bit too intricate for me to want to try it in charcoal and in truth was a bit of a killer to do, I couldn't keep concentration and did it in half an hour here and half an hour there... today I managed to shade it in a fairly solid effort of several hours but there's quite a lot to this image and it drove me a bit crazy.

Not tried the stylus (I have only tried the sticks once so far) I think as they get shorter its a good idea but while they are long they are easy to work with anyway. I just feel with the charcoal it is easy to move it accidentally if you are double checking measurements or if you put your hand on it, you can smudge pencil too but it feels a bit safer touching the paper.
I have to get a few more copies done out of the book, I will probably select a couple of torsos and portraits...9 more of these pages to fill then I will move onto the Bargue figure drawings which appear to be simple line drawings but are masterfully executed.
