Nigel Williams

Biography

I'm a lecturer in fine art at a college in Swansea and have painted seriously since 1990. I have a degree in painting and drawing and a master's in fine art. The master's nearly destroyed my professional practice - my love for representational painting, and landscape in particular - but I eventually woke up and realised that I should paint for myself first and foremost and not chase the fallacy of contemporary discourse. It's just not for me. Teaching interrupted my practice for a decade (along with writing several crime novels) but I've returned to painting everyday, with the intent of retiring from securing in a couple of years time to paint full-time. I had a bit of success early on in my career and exhibited widely in UK and especially in Wales (the land of my birth). I have work in public collections and in private collections in UK, Australia, Singapore, Ireland and New York. I'm feeling my feet again, trying to explore as much as I can.
