Biography

As a Devon artist who lived in Australia for a number of years I am interested in how perception of a place is influenced by personal and collective memories. Whether Devon is your home, the place you come to on holiday, or a stereotype derived from popular culture, your Devon may be different to my Devon. I feel that memories ‘frame’ our sense of place, and visual images contribute to our memories. Devon has always been 'home', and I am delighted to paint it's countryside and coasts. I currently paint part-time, but working in education gives me nice holidays in which to submit to my painting passion. I studied Fine Art at A level, but then followed the 'proper job' route, working in media. Years later I joined a watercolour group, exhibited in Australia (where I learnt oil painting) and locally, but only had my first solo exhibition in Honiton last year.
