Guinea fowl are brilliant birds. Their faces are ugly, but in a beautiful way. Their heads are out of proportion with their bodies. Their plumage is complex and stunning and my favourite part are their amazing neck feathers. They have been described as the punk rockers of the bird world – justly in my opinion. They therefore offer particular challenges and will teach us skills to apply to many other birds. If you can paint guinea fowl you will have no problem with cockerels and hens. A particular challenge is their markings, so we will simplify and use masking fluid and also a unique texturing process to get interesting marks in the background. In our time we can only paint one bird, but later on you can do a whole flock.
