'It is always worth spending time exploring the subject before beginning a painting,' says Julie King. 'Snowdrops are fascinating flowers. Observe their characteristics and make small sketches or notes to describe them. Here is my brief description:
'The common snowdrop are small white flowers. The solitary white blooms hang down loosely. Three petals surround the central bell shape, which has a distinctive bright green inverted v-shape. Look carefully at the smooth gently curved edges gravitating from the tubular calyx. The leaves are tall and narrow and have a beautiful blue-green tinge.'
