Winner of December's The Artist 90th anniversary challenge announced

Philip Westcott has been selected as the winning artist in December's The Artist 90th anniversary challenge for his acrylic, pen and ink painting, Buskers, Eccles, see below.

Each month we are inviting entries on a theme inspired by a key event of 1931, the year which saw the launch of the magazine.

In December 1931, New York's Metropolitan Opera broadcast an entire opera over the radio, so we invited you to paint on the theme of, or an image inspired by music.

We loved the joyful nature of Philip's mixed media painting.
