Huge congratulations to Stockport Art Guild who have been named as Art Club of the Year at the opening of our Art Club exhibition at Patchings Art Centre.

Ten UK art clubs were selected to take part in the exhibition, which runs from October 12 to November 10 in the Pavilion Gallery, from all of the entries to our 2019 Art Club of the Year competition. From these well-know artist and contributor to The Artist magazine, Hazel Soan, chose her top three clubs to win prizes from Jackson's Art Supplies with Stockport being her number one choice.

Of the five artworks (see below) entered and exhibited by Stockport Art Guild Hazel says: 'All the paintings are strong with a confident clarity about them, which says to me that this club knows how to encourage its artists, they are brave, purposeful paintings. The group vibe is larger for the sum of the parts. The colour combination excellent, with a clear, clean interaction of panels of colour. I think they know their stuff up there! I also like the choice of shapes, each definitely enhances the other as a group, and therefore hang well together'.

Stockport Art Guild win £500 worth of Jackson's art materials vouchers, £100 towards the cost of a workshop or demonstration to club members and a feature in Leisure Painter next year.

Hazel selected Millennium Art Group and Milton Keynes Society of Artists as runners-up.

Of Millennium Art Group, Hazel says: 'I like the clever natural colour wave that sweeps as a theme through all their artworks, binding them together as a whole. There is a good selection of style and medium and I imagine this group as very supportive of each other in their endeavours'.
