Suggested materials
Note: Sandfix support needs to be prepared before this webinar begins - at least a day in advance to allow the Sandfix media to dry.
- Charcoal (any brand) - browse here. Nitram Charcoal in Batons, Fusains, stick, block length are highly recommended. Nitram sharpening block is highly recommended also. If you don't have one, new rough sandpaper sheet will do for this webinar session. Nitram start kit to include a mini sharpening bloc and a variety of charcoal grades is suggested.
- Compressed charcoal - any brand - browse here
- Black Conte sticks - any brand - browse here
- Liquid fixative and spray fixative - browse here
- Masking tape
- Photocopy paper or scrap paper such as old envelops etc for masking techniques
- Earth colours - soft and hard pastels any brand, with other hard and soft pastel colours that relate to the reference photograph - browse here
- Large round watercolour brushes such as size 20 and above, 1 inch chisel and above, plus other brushes you would like to use. I will be using large Chinese brushes too and a large swordliner brush (ProArte) - browse here
- Water pots for pastel dilution and washing out your brushes
- Containers and wells in which to mix pastel paint colours
- A large blade craft knife such as a 26 Scalpel or Stanley Knife
- 20 x 22 300gsm (140lb) 'not' cotton rich watercolour paper primed with sandfix pastel primer - browse here
