Plein Air Oil Painting for Beginners and Improvers at Rye Harbour

Join Fran Russell for a plein air painting workshop at Rye Harbour on June 27, 2019.

Join Fran Russell to paint en plein air at the scenic Rye Harbour on Thursday June 27th.

A small group of eight will receive tuition and guidance from Fran to help find your subject; set up your easel; plan your composition; create atmospheric perspective; colour mixing; application of oil paints; how to paint wet-on-wet in one session & avoid “muddy” colours and many useful tips to assist you with the challenges of landscape painting en plein air.

This venue offers a good choice of subject matter; the River Rother with many moored fishing and pleasure boats and the wooden structures of the harbour pier and walkways. You can choose to set up your easel looking at the harbour towards Rye in one direction or down the river channel out to sea with the salt marshes to the side in the other. There are also views from the clubhouse deck looking across stored sail-boats towards the Napoleonic Rye Harbour Martello tower.
