Beautiful portrait Sarah very inspirational I’ve never painted in oils before I might give it a try

That's a stunner Sarah. You've captured her very inquisitive look.

Thank you Philip and Susan for your lovely comments. Philip, I love your recent dog portrait too...it has such warmth!

Beautiful dog - and a beautiful painting.

Beautiful !

Fantastic Sarah and I really like the way you've done the background, works a treat. That fur and expression is SUBLIME!

This is absolutely stunning Sarah.

Beautiful painting you have captured the fur so well. This looks extremely painstaking you must have a huge amount of patience 👏

Lovely expression - and painting, Sarah

She's beautiful! We had a lab called Secret, such wonderful dogs!

Lovely work Sarah you have managed the fur so well..afraid a skill I have yet to perfect. Beautiful portrait.

I want to give this dog a great big hug, he/she has such an expressive face beautifully captured. Well done.

My husband says he thinks your pet portraits make the animals look alive. Beautiful paintings. Such patience you must have. I’ve never tried in oils, do you have to wait a few days between layers?

Thank you everyone, I gifted this portrait on the weekend and it was very well received! In response to Jenny's earlier comment earlier today, you do have a wait a day or two between layers, but I sometimes mix Liquin into my paint, which speeds up the drying process to a few hours. It does however make the paint slightly more glossy and translucent so it needs to be used in moderation so that the paint surface doesn't become uneven in texture. Hope this helps.

This commissioned portrait has been a pleasure from start to finish. I was a bit apprehensive about how to approach such pale creamy fur in oil. It's very easy to make it too orangey or too grey! I knew I wanted a dark background to make her 'pop' from the canvas but I didn't want it to be so dark that she became 'silhouetted'. The image reference was highly exposed, which meant her eyes weren't very visible so I've muted the entire contrast of the image to create a softer portrait. Oil on board, 16 x 16'.
