If you haven't done a preparatory drawing, it's a good way to understand what you are looking at and helps to build confidence for future work. Painting is a great activity and can be seen as a diary that will amaze you as you improve. Spend a few minutes doing a line drawing of what you see. It needn't be accurate but helps to get a 'feel' of what you want to do. Good luck!
