PLEASE don't make this your last dog portrait. it's very good indeed - great expression and you have handled the fur extremely well. Assume it's acrylic? I don't think it could be improved as a watercolour it would just be different.

Thanks Heather. Actually it is watercolour. Enjoyed painting it but it was hard work! I really prefer the freedom of landscape painting so forays into portraits of any kind are likely to be few and far between!

Well it threw me because it looked like watercolour but then you seemed to suggest it wasn't so I thought it was a very diluted acrylic. I really like it and her expression is just great. I like the background as is too.

Lovely painting of a lovely dog Michael.

You are very kind Carole. Right out of my comfort zone. The only other portrait I have tried is one of my daughter - it was so bad I tore it up and (thankfully) she never saw it!

Great dog portrait. Love the pose and alert expression.

Thank you Sandra.

This my first (and possibly last!) attempt at a dog portrait. Betsy is my brother's gorgeous little cocker spaniel puppy. Quite pleased with the likeness but know it could be much improved as a watercolour. Undecided about a background so have left it unpainted while I cogitate! On a sheet of Arches 300lb NOT paper and 15x11 in.
