Porte St. Martin Paris (circa 1920)

Lovely olde worldly feel to this Michael, quite an ambitious task in watercolour but you have pulled it off.

Lovely sombre tones Michael

Thank you Stephen, Dennis and Jennifer. I did wonder, Stephen, when I started what I had let myself in for!

Splendid work Michael , just enough detail and it works beautifully

Wonderful scene expertly painted.

Thank you very much Dermot & Carole. I enjoyed painting this one but, Carole, I would not class myself as an expert in anything! The phrase "jack of all trades.............." comes to mind.

Full of light in darkness, beautiful glow to this Michael

A 50th birthday present to my wife's niece, Sue, who lives in Australia with her husband but has fallen in love with France. I take no credit for originality because my watercolour is based on a wonderful oil painting I found by Edouard Cortes (born circa 1882) which shows the huge Porte St, Martin gateway side on. His painting showed much more detail but I have simplified it and re-arranged it a bit to make it more feasible to paint in watercolour. Pleased to say she liked it and it now hangs in their holiday home in Aquitaine, France. It is 14x10 in. on Arches Rough.
