Several paintings I have done recently have been "OK" but rather bland I feel. So I thought I'd have a go at something with a bit more colour and brightness. I like harbour scenes and dug out some pictures of Honfleur painted by Edward Wesson and John Yardley among others. I love their impressionist style and, having studied their work for an hour or so, I sketched out this scene and painted it this morning as loosely as my old stiff hand would let me! It is not in the EW or JY class but I think a little of their style rubbed off on me and I was quite pleased with the result - particularly as I was prepared for a complete disaster!
