Lovely picture Michael, you seem to have captured the scene very well.

A truly lovely painting Michael! Beautiful light and a very controlled brush!

It looks a fresh young hand Michael. Definitely in the Wesson Yardley vein. Class work as always to be much admired

Good effort Dennis of a very difficult and famous location.

You've certainly captured the colour and bustle of the harbour Michael. One to be very pleased with.

I think this is really good Michael. I like the shadow on the while building.

Lovely painting. I like the colours used especially on some of the buildings.

I love all your work Michael. Your paintings are so "clean" and beautiful.

And it worked so well - one to treasure.

Thank you all for you complimentary words on this one. It was nice to get back to painting something 'half decent' after several unsuccessful paintings which will not see the light of day! Isn't it strange how the 'knack' can come and go without warning.

Several paintings I have done recently have been "OK" but rather bland I feel. So I thought I'd have a go at something with a bit more colour and brightness. I like harbour scenes and dug out some pictures of Honfleur painted by Edward Wesson and John Yardley among others. I love their impressionist style and, having studied their work for an hour or so, I sketched out this scene and painted it this morning as loosely as my old stiff hand would let me! It is not in the EW or JY class but I think a little of their style rubbed off on me and I was quite pleased with the result - particularly as I was prepared for a complete disaster!
