Thank you Joseph - not sure whether you are referring to the Shere or Itchen Navigation painting....but whatever....thanks! I'm new to this site (today!) so still finding my way around. I also post on the WetCanvas Watercolour gallery web site under the pseudonym "rossmarie". Mike

Love this watercolour Michael, lovely composition and warm tones.

Indeed very nice. I love the water pushing and swilling against the lock. Very good.

Thank you Fiona & Gudrun. Glad you like the sluice painting. Sometimes you look at a painting the next day and wonder why you thought it was any good the previous day - but this one has grown on me so perhaps it's a "keeper". Mike

Great darks to create sense of light and dynamism. Always interested to learn which colour combinations artists use to achieve their darks. I'm an ultramarine and burnt sienna man. How about you Michael?

Thank you Philip. Yes, I use those two but I also use French ultramarine with cadmium red and sometimes with a bit of burnt umber as well.

This is a lovely painting - I always think it is so difficult - as an oil painter - to do water colours...so well done!!

Lovely, lively water and tones in this Michael - really well executed study of an interesting subject!

Thank you very much Elizabeth & Rob - much appreciated. Thought this one had gone off the radar long ago!
