A very appealing image beautifully painted.

Thank you very much for your lovely comment, Lesley

I loved all your pictures and would be very interested to know which type/make of pen you favour? I have only tried Edding 0.1 black and brown but both seem to give quite a thick outline. Also what are the dimensions of the pictures ie "The Oast Houses" as from the website it is difficult to decide whether they are miniatures or much larger, as I would very much like to emulate your style as drawing is my forte and I have been told I need to work more quickly and paint more transparently. I do hope you can help.

Hello Valerie, I much appreciate your comments on my work. For the pen and wash I always make a pencil drawing, very basic, no details, otherwise you loose all spontaneity with the pen. I sometimes draw with an old fashion dip pen and ink, now I often use "Artline-drawing system" or "Staedler - pigment liner" 0,5 or 0,7 for the basic drawing. Details are added with 0,1 or 0,2. Then I paint with the watercolours, very transparently, leaving a lot of white space. Once the paint is dry, I add some details (rooftiles or treefoliage), but with a fine point because the paint changes the surface off the paper and the lines are thicker than on blanc paper. Never hold your marker vertical, but hold it like a sketching-pencil, very loose, drawing a lively line. Indeed you have to work quickly, otherwise your lines are too heavy and even. It is much about thinking before drawing. And when you paint in the watercolours: less is more!!! The dimensions of those pen and washes are mostly 24 x 32cm. I hope this advice can help you a little bit. I will be looking forward to see your progress (sorry for the maybe English mistakes, I am Flemish).

Hi Mia ......... splendid work as always. I am daily looking for your work on this gallery. It is refreshing. Keep them coming.
