A great finishing touch Marjorie and it does not hide any of that beautifully painted cloth.

Perfect Marjorie, a good choice to make the composition complete.

Sorry Marjorie.. I think that the knife placed there, kills it. All the attention is drawn to the pointed blade and that's where where my eye travels which makes it sensational as opposed to passive. That's fine if it was your intention..I wonder how it would have changed the dynamics if it had been placed partly obscured behind the apples? Sorry, it's late and you might be offended by a nay sayer but I like your approach to painting too much to let even a modest painting go without comment.

Oops..very sorry

Marjorie...please delete my comments...don't consider them to be appropriate.R

What's inappropriate about them Roger? It's constructive crit we need and if we respect the critic then that's fine. If we were face to face I would agree or disagree without takingoffence. My own view is that as it's not a " proper" painting but a bit of fiddling about, trying to make the best of something unplanned - there were 4 apples to start with ( an odd number is what I usually like) and it was an impulsive painting because I wanted to put complementaries next to each other. The actual using of the paint was what I enjoyed, so, keep on with the crits!

Thanks Carole and Nicola for advice - the knife seemed to fit in best.
