Terrific work Liezel. The surface adds greatly to the effect and is ideal for your old fences and rough area.

Wonderful painting Liezel. The greens and oranges are so beautiful and really sing.

Very fond of old fences, gates & walls myself....this is fabulous! Is there an element of collage in the foreground?

Great subject and super rendition of it, well done, Liezel

Really good - love the textures and colours especially.

Wonderful textures, Liezel.

Thanks so much all for your lovely comments. Anne, yes I added some cheesecloth to my paper when I was applying the gesso textured surface by "painting" it into the wet ground. It gives great texture when painted over once dry.

Lovely composition, textures and colours, Liezel, it has a 'Blockley' look to it.

Very bold and dramatic - great work, Liezel

Cheesecloth.....wow!!!

Love this Liezel! Like you, I love Quinacridone gold - the colours and textures are terrific.

Thanks so much for the lovely comments! I might attempt to document a "step-by-step" for my next painting. Its almost like doing 2 paintings, prepping the surface and then the watercolour/ink on top. It's really fun and even though I plan my composition, the textural surprises once the colours go on, are very exciting.

Full of energy Liezel - texture and great colours.

This is fantastic, so much texture and interest.

Thanks so much Val and Shaun, much appreciated.

On evening walks around where we live, we have these wonderfull field fences, most in a "rustic" state and somewhat dilapidated. Lots of textures to get my hands dirty with! Using different techniques to distress my painting surface was the starting point for this painting. I loved the blend of DS quinacridone gold and alizarin crimson for the background field.
