A great variety of characterful portraits to enjoy, each one with a story Lewis. Like the way you have catalogued them together for us to enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

Every one a gem and worthy of study Lew. Clever work.

Love them My favourite is the young lady on the top left. Very appealing.

All of them are excellent Lewis, but for me the 'nutty professor' made me laugh out loud with his lovely gormless expression.

Your faces are wonderful Lewis, all very different and funny. I love seeing them.

Thank you all for your generous comments.

Just love the characters you create in your sketchbook Lewis I admire your talent.

Very interesting faces as always Lew.

You are a clever fella Lew. Question please. When you start these do you know how it will turn out?. If I’m sitting in front of someone ,or me in a mirror I expect some sort of likeness but if I’m doing stuff from my head I neve know what the face will be like until it’s on the paper. So do you have a little pic sitting waiting to be drawn or a little bunch of people waiting to surprise you as I do.

Thanks to all for your great comments. Sylvia...these are from my sketchbook, so they come straight from my head. I begin with a very light pencil sketch, with very little detail, more a case of how the parts are placed. Then I draw in ink, usually changing from the pencil lines, which are only a guide. For the turtle faced fella, I had a look at a photo of a turtle...not to copy, just as a help...turtles don't look like this. The rest were just made up. I guess I 'see' the picture in my mind. That said, it's rare to get the image in my thoughts down on paper. It'll be a bit like what I had in mind. Sometimes these sketches prompt a full blown painting. The girl bottom left give me the idea for a painting in similar style...it turned out NAFF. So I haven't posted it. I hope that's clear (it probably isn't), but, as you know, this art malarkey is a strange business.

Thanks Lew. It is interesting to know how others work and the thought process. 😊

Having started a few pictures that turned into duffers, I've resorted to my sketchbook. I like to do something every day if I can. I like drawing faces mostly, and these take no time...some are better than others.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
