Wouldn’t want to argue with most of these Lew! It certainly looks like you’re enjoying handling the gouache and it gives a different look to your work, maybe a fuller bodied effect?

What a great bunch of characters and interesting to read about your experiments

Excellent work Lew, you paint a draw well in any medium. The expressions on the faces are great, I particularly like the one bottom left.

Thank you Tessa, Heather and Dixie. Yes Tessa, it definitely gives a more full bodied effect than watercolour...even on those occasions when I've added white to watercolour to give it more body.

Such diverse characters, great drawing.

Always amazing characters and always so different. Your handling of both mediums is very skilful and equally professionally, illustrative but I suppose it matters which one you feel most comfortable with.

Certainly remain recognisable as LC paintings. Would expect the opaque nature of gouache to carry through into the glaze and , consequently deaden the painting surface more than a transparent glaze as from watercolour.

Great characters Lewis, as Tessa says, strong women! Interested to here about your experience with gouache, I have only used white to patch up mistakes. Might put it on the Xmas list!

Very different females- there’s a couple I wouldn’t like to meet. Such characterful faces.

Great looking characters Lewis - some of these would fit some people I know! I love gouache and this is a wonderful example of what can be achieved using this very versatile medium.

great characterisation Lewis. Each one has their own 'style'.

Thanks again to all who've commented, it's very much appreciated.

Super lewis. It’s no fling I hope. Keep it going.

Haha, love your gouache girls Lewis. Such characters.

Great characters, Lewis, and you’ve mastered the gouache! (I can’t seem to get on with it at all.)

Which one shall I take home for tea !

What a fantastic 'rogues' gallery Lewis, skill and imagination abound!

Where on earth do you find your inspiration Lewis? Love the lady in pink.

Continuing my fling with gouache, I did these pics. Slight variations in how they were painted to try things...they all look pretty much the same. The one bottom left was painted with thinner gouache, and I attempted glazing. The glazing works, but for me, not as well as watercolour. Probably won't glaze in gouache very much.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
