Ahh...having posted this, read through my desciption and found the usual mistakes, another thought has hit me...I'm not a proper watercolourist...so disregard what I said in the description. (These paints are ok for someone who paints like me.)

Love the Hokusai wave! She looks great in her elaborate headgear. Also like your smiling moon. Ye I have seen Reeves paint on Amazon, good for a prep painting Lew.

Great painting Lew. Not quite slanted oriental eyes but a looker anyway. I don't paint for a living either so I have a mixed collection of materials, mainly cheap stuff, but it's probably looking at five years rather then fifty. (-:

She's very eye-catching whatever her nationality. And I too love the moon.

I couldn't say when it comes to watercolour, Lew. I have an unused set that my wife bought me from a bargain store a couple of years ago, so maybe I'll give them a whirl. Never painted real watercolour in my life. This looks remarkably encouraging for a watercolour novice, Lew. The colours, that is. She has a hint of the oriental around the eyes, leaning towards Thai with Mediterranean overtones, but she looks great. Bri

Well whatever nationality she is she's beautifully painted. In answer to your reference about paint, I have Windsor and Newton but also some Reeve's which I still use, I have paintings on the walls from way back when and they still look the same as the day they were painted. However I do think paper makes a big difference, hence I have experimented with different textures later, some good and some not so good. Linda 😀

Thanks for your comments and feedback, always welcome. I think you're right about the paper, Linda. This was painted on heavyweight cartridge paper, which was all I used back then...better quality watercolour paper allows more liberties. But I don't really paint as I've seen other watercolorists paint, I seldom use very wet washes etc. I like bright colours painted fairly thickly with a little dry brush. (dryish).

I so agree with these comments, Especially about the Reeves paint, I was given a set when I was 7 [20 years ago...lol!] Now I use a wide variety including White Knights and Jackson's own. Can't tell the difference in the paints but as Linda says, the paper is the important factor! I think she's great, Lewis, I'd be thrilled to be able to imagine that lovely lady and scene

I think she looks gorgeous Lewis, and I love the moon and the wave!

I think this is great Lewis. The colours are lovely. I also have some Reeves materials and love them! ;-)

She’s beautiful Lewis and I love her headdress.

Here's another old pic. You'll see I've used Hokusai's famous wave idea (not so well, of course). I quite like this pic, the only trouble is she's supposed to be an 'oriental' girl, and she doesn't look very 'oriental'.
