Different times Lew, but your imagination was always likely to exceed a celluloid vision. This isn't a character I am familiar with but you seem to have created the generically high cheekboned dashing protagonist, nice work.

You are so clever at capturing facial expressions, Lewis!

Interesting read and well illustrated. You have such talent Lewis!

Brilliant, Lewis. I too remember clearly listening to the radio in the 50's. Radio was fantastic in making you use your imagination. You've done a great job with Dick.

Love them Lew....my memories of them are earlier than fifties...I had two stuffed dogs ( toys) I dragged around, one was Snowy and one was Jock .

Good work Lewis. Still time to join Steve down in the bar for a whisky and soda.

Anyone else listening to the opening music in their head ? B

Great collection of characters. Your write up also brings back the same memories.

This one takes me back, remember listening to it on the radio can even remember the music, another great drawing Lewis 😀

Superb stuff Lewis. The opening/closing music was called "The Devil's Gallop" and along with the Paul Temple (another special agent from back then) music, "Coronation Scot", can still be heard by typing them in Youtube or Google. I can hear them both now. Magic stuff and happy days. (-:

Thanks Jim will do that.

Answer to Sylvia, yes in singing that music 😀 and another one springs to mind Lewis, Valentine Dials The Man In Black, used to scare the living daylights out of me lol 😀

Oh yes Lew, good old Dick Barton, what a great illustration, a wonderful depiction and great memories.

Michael Rennie , the third man .

Yes, I remember the music, guaranteed to get the kids running to the radio. Sylvia...the only 'Third Man' I recall was the brilliant film with Orson Wells. This group is about detectives, was the Micheal Rennie thing about detectives?

I remember my mum and I listening to this Lewis, wow makes me feel old! Love this.

Another wow, Lewis!

I'm not familiar with these, but it's an excellent image.

Love it and sad to say I have those memories too!

Great characters Lewis, radio was everything back in the day, the kids nowadays just wouldn't understand😀

In the 1950's we kids would be playing outside, and someone would say 'Dick Barton's on!' Off we'd scatter to catch the latest episode on the radio. They were in serial form, 15 minutes each night. Dick and his pals, Jock and Snowy, would solve many a crime, and sometimes save the world as we know it. At the end of each episode, Dick or one of his mates would be in dire straights...hanging by his fingernails over a crocodile infested pool (or something).

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
