Contre-jour Cat
I created this reduction linocut after drawing a friend's beautiful white cat as it sat on a windowsill. Sitting against the light made the cat's white fur very dark in places - an effect called contre-jour. I used several shades of grey and a single block of lino to create the print - it's called a reduction print because I cut into the block as I went along, meaning that only a limited number of prints could be made. I then used a smaller second block to print the cat's reflection in the window. This edition is printed on Somerset paper using oil-based inks.
