A lovely bright painting Jenny , great flamingo's. I remember the late Peter Scott in the 1960s doing a tv programme from Slimbridge , and his superb paintings of the wildfowl.

Lovely painting Jenny.

I really like the stylised approach to these flamingos, good one Jenny

Thank you, Paul, Denise and Heather! (Heather, thanks especially for your comment - a stylised approach has gradually become my normal way of working, so it’s encouraging to get positive feedback.)

Lovely painting

Very much your style, love the different poses !

Colourful and elegant birds, they sit so well against their complementary colour Jenny.

Love your three flamingos Jenny!

Many thanks, Faye, Richard, Fiona, Lewis and Louise!

Agree with all the others, the colours here are perfect - complementary, of course, rich green, and a particularly effective merging of red into pink. It's the sort of painting I'd buy if I saw it in a gallery, in a frame which picked up the hues of the painting - and I bet others would go for it too.

Robert, thank you so much for your encouraging comments! It’s the first painting I’ve done for a while (been busy organising my art club’s autumn exhibition) and it took me a while to get going again. (Usually the first painting I do after a break ends up in the bin, but I did manage to persevere with this.) It’s the first time I’ve used this green - Daniel Smith’s Undersea Green - it has a lovely granulation. The DS paints aren’t cheap, but I tend not to buy any others now when you can get colours like this straight from the tube!

It amazes me how all that mass of bird balances on one slender leg, the other tucked up out of sight. You have got it right with good technique too.

Thanks, Frank - they are curious but very elegant birds, aren’t they - and I’ve just learned that a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance which is rather apt! (Apparently both words have their origin in an old French word for flame.)

What a wonderful design and so effective Jenny.

Thanks very much, Diane!

Beautiful Jenny love the texture contrast

Thanks very much, Dennis!

Wasn’t familiar with the Slimbridge Wetland Reserve and was amazed to see how many Flamingos it has! (Only just caught sight of the November challenge before it dropped out of sight on the forum.)
