Nicely done Fiona. I particularly like the foreground and skyline details.

This is marvellous, Fiona, from the sky to the foreground. Your explanation added to the enjoyment, explaining why it appears to be a work in progress. *smile* (the building, not the painting) you've also developed great depth with your subtle palette and positioning of the layers. The lighthouse is quite literally a tour de force, as it rises majestically into the skyline. Lovely work. Bri

Interesting background story and the whole pic is beautifully painted.

Fantastic sky Fiona also like the foreground. A beautiful palette of colours too.

Well Fiona this has it all, story as well, it's like a history lesson roled into an art lesson. I like the watercolour sky its what only watercolour can do with the subtle staining, and the small amount of foliage to the base of the tower adds a real mid ground that then makes sense of the distance. All in all very nice ;-)

Jim thank you, I was a bit worried that i had done my usual and overdone the foreground. Thanks very much Pete! You are very kind Brian, thank you. It is a very odd looking lighthouse to be honest, if you get the chance google it. The tower narrows at the top under the light. Many thanks Brian........for a change I took my time, not sure whether I sacrificed the liveliness. Carole, thanks very much. I quite like how the sky turned out, it’s the rest......!

Lol....I thought the history lesson may explain the reason for it’s odd shape Alan, I also hoped that it would take some of the attention away from the art! Thank you. Hope you’re working on your next hat trick!

Works very well Fiona, I particularly like the sky and lighthouse. Foregrounds are difficult, perhaps you could introduce more variety in the colours of he rocks, just a thought.

This is a rather interesting landmark Fiona. I like it a lot, great colours too.

Wonderful, Fiona, I especially like the foreground.

Love everything about this, Fiona. The palette is super.

I love the colour palette here, Fiona, and the foreground is a great...wonderful contrast of the rocks against the palerlighthouse. Love the little slashes if blue, too! Fab!!!

Lovely colours and pen work in this, Fiona - and your narratives add so much interest to the scenes you paint.

Brilliant Fiona, not many lighthouses left to paint. I really like this one.

Lovely painting, Fiona, captures the age of it nicely without overdoing it.

I love the rocks and that sky is fabulous.

A lovely painting Fiona, like the colours you have used and your historical facts, 😀

I love these colours and the gentle touch of th3 watercolour washes. Really eye catching

Delightful Fiona.

Beautifully painted Fiona, specially like the foreground.

Good painting fiona, I like the colours and textures.

Ooh, I do like this Fiona, especially all the penwork in the foreground. Sorry if I've missed any of your postings but I just haven't been painting and rarely looked at the gallery. Not sure why that is except that it is rather hot and family and garden seem to have kept me busy recently. Hopefully I'll be back painting soon if I can unscrew my probably dried up tubes of paint that is. I've just noticed that a full bottle of masking fluid I had has dried up and turned to rubber in the heat.. :)

Fabulous Fiona! Such an interesting story too. Super work.

Lovely painting all over Fiona. Great style.

Thanks very much Stephen........good suggestion thank you for that, I will probably try it again but much looser. Glad you like it Alan, thank you.

Thank you very much everyone for your feedback......it’s interesting that you see the foreground in a different light to myself. I may have another go at it at some stage. Thanks again!

Thank you Tessa....one to try in oils in the winter perhaps. Cesare, many thanks for your comment, appreciate. Thanks very much Louise. It’s been the opposite for me this summer, I’ve done more painting because of the weather. I’ve practically abandoned the garden this year because of the heat, I can’t bare these temperatures.......so I’ve gone out and done sketching whilst it’s cooler then retreated indoors to paint. Don’t leave it too long, it’s always great to see your postings Louise.

Margaret, Dorothy......thank you both very much, your comments are always appreciated.

What a great painting Fiona, I love the way the lighthouse stands tall and proud against that fabulous sky.

Well Fiona you've made the top scrolly bit :-) ye ha I knew you would well deserved too...

This is cracking Fiona, even though it’s light in colour you have used just the right tone to make it stand out against the sky. All well supported by a lovely foreground.

Val thank you very much! Woohoo! Thanks Alan! X Barry, thank you very much, glad you like it.

What more can I add!! Just superb, Fiona, love lighthouses [anything to do with the sea!] This says it all...absolutely stunning painting in every way!

That’s very kind Thalia, thank you.

Love the palette and the simplicity of this Fiona. Gorgeous !!

Hey, nice sky Fiona.... and a very lively foreground.. I like that tone of the foliage..

Thank you Audrey! Guy, glad you like it......thanks very much!

16”x12” watercolour and ink on Arches. Done from a sketch a couple of weekends ago. Sountherness lighthouse is one of the earliest lighthouses in Scotland. It was built as a marker in 1749 to help ships navigate their way up the Nith Estuary. It was heightened in 1795 and the first light added in around 1800. Raised again in 1843 creating its distinctive shape. The light was extinguished in the mid 1930s and is now disused. The foreground rocks are almost black with their covering of seaweed, it is surrounded by sea at high tide.
