This is lovely. It has a sort of antique look to it Diana

Lots of energy and movement in this piece Fiona. A great start.

love it so different loose and bold more please with your new pastels

I love this one, Fiona! You've done a wonderful job creating textures and shading in the foreground and especially in the hills.

It's a lovely sketch Fiona, with your characteristic marks in the foreground.

I like this style, sketchy and full of energy, the sky is particularly good Fiona.

Very lovely Fiona

Nice free use of the medium Fiona, I find Canson paper is very good for pastel, using the smooth side.

Like a duck to water Fiona. I guarantee that you will enjoy your new pastels when they arrive.

Bright, airy and skillfull Fiona.

I can breathe again......I've been holding my breath since posting...lol I really don't know how to use pastel, if, there is a wrong or right way to use them? Thank you for your encouraging feedback, looking forward to getting some new colours and proper paper.

Its a wonderful landscape Fiona. this is so fresh and free, love how the yellow foreground brings us to the home, as the mountains and movement in the sky does also....look forward to seeing more with your new pastels!

Are we having a pastel trend Fiona? This is so fresh, I like the dark marks they finish it off nicely.

Thanks Nancy, I tried not to smooth and blend too much, to try and keep it rough looking. Lol Carole, I've got a bit stale and thought trying something completely different might kick start my enthusiasm again.

I think there is a pastel surge coming Carole. This is lovely Fiona. Was remarking to John Inkson about being encouraged to try another pastel - so far I have only stroked them in awe! I tend to blend, but John says he uses them like a brush. Have I got the courage!

So delightful and fresh.

I like the lines in this Fiona and the hit and miss of the pastels on the surface, the scene reminds me of some of the secluded bays I have visited up in Sutherland when we use to go up to your country in winter to climb and on rest days travel the areas. Like this piece even though pastel still identifiable as your work, nice one.

Lovely composition and blend of colours, Fiona - with your distinctive marks in the foreground!

Of course you have the courage Adele....go for it girl!! I've been encouraged to have another go and thank you for your encouragement. Malcolm, that's exactly what I had in mind...long sweeping sutherland coastline with the ever popular bright red corrugated roof. Thank you. Many thanks Shirley, Jenny and Gudrun for your lovely comments.

Lovely composition Fiona. Those marks give it lots of energy.

Fresh, atmospheric and very lively Fiona, love it!

Rough yes - caught the subject, stunning yes, the edges are fine as is all your work.

Thank you very much Henry, Mia and Derek.....you're back Derek!

I like this Fiona, it's very simple, and not over worked....a very pleasing picture!

Thanks Chandra!

14"x10" pastel, with a little conte on sugar paper. I thought I might have a go with pastels and whilst I'm waiting for new pastels to arrive, I thought I would make use of the thirty year old, half a dozen bits and pieces I already have. It isn't very refined but I quite like the rough around the edges look.
