This is fabulous. The colours work really well and the strokes on the right just balances up the painting beautifully. I also like the casual scatter on the base where the glass and flowers are. If I were you I might buy some more acrylics! What size is it? This is even better if you click on mage to enlarge it.

Gudrun thank you. I nearly didn't put this up, there are so many things wrong with it....I mean, how do you DO glass, I've no idea! The strokes on the right are from a bit of left over paint on the palette, that I just had to use!Lol.The size is 16"x12" so only a wee one, and as you can probably tell, it took me about 30mins to do....not including the drying time between applications, that is. Thank you again Gudrun, you've cheered me up.

PS It is a little better viewed large.

Well Fiona why ask how you do glass with a knife, you've done it brilliantly! I really like this painting.

This is a riot of colour Fiona and the glass is fine.

This is BEAUTIFUL painting Fiona!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with it! I hope that you are now more at peace with acrylics and soon you might start to like them. They seem to like you and you have handled the glass ever so well. Super work!

Christine, Frank, Satu, you are all very kind to say such wonderful things about my venture into acrylic painting. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback. Thank you.

I think that you must keep on using up your acrylics and then go and buy some more :) . I have one or two acrylic tubes where the lids have broken and it is so annoying. I keep these tubes in an old ice cream tub and they seem to keep OK that way. Also when your tubes run out just make sure that you keep their lids for the next lot that break. I think I might have Scottish ancestors too :) anyway, back to your lovely painting. I like the tonal contrasts Fiona!

I'm total Scot and hate waste too!! I like this very much and very impressed with knife technique. It's off centre, which is a relief to see and has great atmosphere and one of the few plant still lives I have seen her which actually conveys something alive and vibrant. Good stuff! Well worth framing and displaying.

beautifully done Fiona love the ,looseness of it fabulous

This is beautiful - so light and airy but with interesting and harmonious colours. Really super work.

Sarah. Roger, Sandy, Thea thank you all very much for your positive feedback. It's encouraging to know that it perhaps isn't too bad a job.

Beautiful work Fiona and with knife technique too. I cannot get on with Acrylics but the way you have mastered this I may very well give them another try at some stage.

Thank you Glennis. I am determined to use ALL these old acrylics, even if I end up with just the one colour, I'll think of something to paint with it! Trouble is I think I will have to get another tube of white.

This is great Fiona, so loose yet instantly recognizable as sweet peas and that glass vase couldn't be painted any better. I've got a box full of acrylics that rarely see the light of day and you've certainly given me food for thought.

Hi Val, thanks very much. I don't seem to be using them up very quickly....I think I need to go much larger with my support. I've got my eye on a sheet of hardboard that came off an old door, that should be large enough to use everything up. All I need to do is find the perfect subject!

This has worked out well Fiona, quite a change in direction for you, it's good to ring the changes occasionally. perhaps you may continue with acrylics and even get some new paints!

I'm having a go at anything that catches my eye at the moment Stephen, to use up the said acrylics. I've even done an abstract! Thank you for your comment, appreciate you having a look.

Hi Fiona. I love this - the colours are great and I think your cave abstract expeience has helped your confidence no end. You ask how you do glass with a knife - well, you do it like that! You look and you interpret and you paint the refelections and the shadows because that is what we see when we look at glass. I've painted glass with a knife in oils - the mobility of the paint helps create more subtle reflections - if you are interested, you will find a few examples at http://amanda-bates-artist.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Wine

Hi Amanda, I do appreciate your encouragement, it's very confidence building. Thank you for taking the time. I'm off to have a look at your blogspot. Thanks again.

You are progressing in giant strides with your acrylics, Fiona. Can't believe you will stop when the paint runs out, you're getting so good at it. Love this one.

Many thanks again Sharon, I've been a bit overwhelmed by the response to the couple of acrylics that I've done. Thanks again.

This is absolutely gorgeous, Fiona! Love the textures created by the knife and the super palette, even if it's because you broke the lid!

Thank you again Seok for your lovely comments and for taking the time to trawl back through my postings, really appreciate you going to the trouble.

Wow this is great, I'm not really a still life flower fan but this is excellent and rightly deserves to have been chosen as one of this months paintings, Congratulations!. The glass is just perfect I don't think it could have been painted better. Hopefully we will be seeing more flower paintings, maybe Santa will bring you some new acrylics.

Fantastic work Fiona

Beautiful and lively!

Congratulations Fiona on being chosen as one of the pictures of the month! Well done! I'm very new to the gallery - only uploading images in the last week or so - So I was really pleased to receive a couple of really kind comments from you about my work. By the way, I happen to love cerulean blue and will quite happily try to include it, whether it is needed or not! Happy Painting!

Thank you Kevin, Petra, Lesley and Andrea for your lovely comments, much appreciated. A complete suprise, but a nice one!

Hello Fiona. I've only just seen this. I don't like acrylics, I don't much care for still life but I think I've just changed my mind on both counts! This is superb and I look forward to seeing more of the same.

Terry would you believe that I'm not keen on acrylics or still life subjects either! I only did these few acrylics because I have old paints and want to use them up. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your lovely comment, very much appreciated coming from an artist such as yourself.

I'm still in the 'use up my old acrylic's mode'! I've had an abundance of beautiful sweet peas this year...these were beautiful until I transformed them with paint.Lol. Done with a small painting knife, apart from the initial background which was done with a large flat hog brush. They are in a champagne flute......how do you do glass and with a knife?? It's the closest I could manage. A whole load of colours used; you may question why I've been using cerulean blue in the ones I've done so far. It's beacuse I broke the lid, I hate waste and I'm half Scot, so I've GOT to use it before it dries up!
