Claude Monet - ish.

I’ve got quite a bit of toning down to do I think, especially on the violet. I haven’t used many of the colours in Monet’s palette, I’ve had to improvise. I rather think it’s more like a Van Gogh than a Monet, it isn’t fuzzy enough. I’ll work on that next week……

Really like what I see!! I agree that it looks more in the Van Gogh style than Monet - however it is still very good!!!

Developing nicely, nothing remotely like a Van Gogh so continue as you are doing!

Its looking really good Fiona. I particularly like the reflections in the bowl. Your Art classes sound great. I love the Impressionists. Alfred Sisley is my personal favourite

Am liking how this is going Fiona, that silver/pewter bowl is looking v good

This is looking good, Fiona - I like the violet. Your art classes sound really interesting!

This is looking really good already Fiona , definitely has the impressionist look to me. The bowl is absolutely superb and the lemons are spot on .

This is looking very good so far, Fiona. Looking forward to the finished painting,

I love the plain cloth as your background Fiona which sets up this composition so well. Monet or Van Gogh not sure but you have produced a great attempt.

Thank you David! That’s positive Alan thank you, see what Tuesday’s three hours to do make or break it. Many thanks David, appreciate your input. The bowl took me as long to do, as all the rest put together I think! I am rubbish at ellipses so I have to spend a lot of time trying to get them right. Sisley may be one of the other four artists we do. Thanks very much Heather. Jenny, thank you. We are very lucky to have Davy, he’s knowledgeable, inspiring and generous with his experiences and knowledge. Lol….thank you Michael for your generous comment. Paul many thanks for your kind comment. Thanks Mia! Chris thank you very much. The brown background is the paper, the table will be painted in next week.

Pretty nice Fiona! Lovely bawl too! Have a great impressionists class!

Looking forward to seeing the finished article Fiona

This sort of class sounds exciting Fiona, You have started off well I think. I might have a look for a local class.

Love it Fiona, especially the bowl with lovely reflections.

Lovely fiona. Really like how you have painted the bowl.

Manoj, Stevan, David, Faye very grateful for your positive feedback, thank you. Thanks Denise. I joined this class about six years ago, I felt I had reached the point where I needed some kind of direction. Best thing I’ve done to try and improve, you should take advantage of a class if you can.

This is wonderful Fiona, I also see no Van Goch here, and am envious of your classes which sound great! I love Monet so look forward to seeing how this develops.

What a great sounding class and like your early result. As you don't associate Monet with still life it must take an extra leap to paint one using his colours! A good exercise!!

Lovely painting Fiona, the colours, reflections and composition are excellent........super

A super start Fiona. Your colours are great as are the reflections. Looking forward to seeing the finished painting. I love the sound of your classes, very envious!

Class sounds great - so much time. This is looking good.

How exciting Fiona! I’m feeling excited and they’re not even my classes! I’m envious too, it’s lovely to have someone direct you . Good luck with the rest of it, great so far.

This is coming on nicely the complimentary use of yellow and purple has great impact Fiona.

Fantastic start Fiona, must be good to have a great tutor. Love the shiny pan but it is all very well done.

Well Fiona I think this is superb. You don’t need to slavishly stick to anyone’s style, your own is quite wonderful. The skill you have used in colour, light and composition is remarkable.🌺🌺🌺

Well, I think this is really good. When I saw this I knew that you were embarking on your course again with your title. I also really like the hint of cloth on the right ....

This is really coming along fabulously, Fiona - really love the palette and there's something about the painting that really captures your own unique take of the scene. Can't wait to see the finished piece!

Tessa, thank you for your encouragement, I’m looking forward to seeing the end result myself! You’re right Sarah, Monet didn’t really do still life work and the ones I have managed to find aren’t to my taste at all, except maybe the lemon branch he did. Thank you. David, karen, Maureen thank you for your positive feedback, really appreciate your comments. It is exciting Marjorie, I love the autumn and winter terms. Davy always comes up with interesting and challenging themes. This one is particularly good because he’s including lots of info about the artists. Thank you!

Shaun thank you so much for your kind comment. Thanks Carole, Davy is a brilliant tutor! Carole, you are very kind thank you. It may all change again on Tuesday, the light will be different for a start! Lol….Gudrun, yes my class is the only thing that makes me focus on what I’m suppose to be doing! Thank you very much Seok for your positive support.

Definitely Monet style, I'm not seeing Van Gogh at all. Whatever...it's very good work, Fiona.

Lewis, Romila….thank you both very much.

Love how you have painted the bowl. You have set up the composition really well and looks like you are on the right lines for producing another Fiona masterpiece! Class sounds wonderful.

Thanks again Diane! I have a battle with painting/drawing anything with an ellipse……I have to plan them out with measurements, dashes and dots, I can’t just do it! Lol I blame my astigmatism…..🤔

Well there is no doubt that that is a silver bowl! Beautifully painted Fiona. Just back from a week near your old stomping ground, beautiful as ever even in the rain.

Thank you Val, I have done something right in that case….lol. I’m glad the old place hasn’t changed much, we haven’t been back yet since we moved. Where did you stay this time? Hope you’ve got lots of material for paintings!

Great work Fiona, you've created the metallic look of the bowl beautifully.

Thanks Keith!

I am so pleased your classes have started again Fiona as I know how much you had been missing them. I am very impressed with this. The silver bowl is just so good. Really looking forward to seeing the finished painting.

Hello Carol, it’s been great to get back to classes, especially with the subject for the term. I believe Davy will be doing the same for the term in the new year up until Easter. Glad you like it, I think after finishing it yesterday, I’ve ruined what I’ve done so far!

Interesting painting , metal pot excellent.

Thank you very much Anne.

16”x14” oil on paper. Art classes are running once again! For the autumn term of ten weeks, we are going to be studying five impressionist artist from the mid-nineteenth century. Spending two weeks on each one, the first is Monet. We will be using our own still life set up but using the artists palette and style to produce a finished painting. Starting with a historical talk about the artists and a demo of their styles, which takes about an hour. We then have four hours in total to complete the painting.
