In the bleak mid-winter. Super work, Fiona.

I really like this Fiona - bleak and beautiful.

Lovely painting Fiona. You are certainly getting very near your target now.

This is a rough sketch?!! It's marvellous! Absolutely love it! Marvellous!

I live on the edge of the fens, this is a familiar beautiful bleak image, well remembered Fiona!

Thank you Lewis, Sandra, Margaret, Carol....yes, only nine to go! Michael, there isn’t very much to stop the wind in the fens, thank you. Lol...yes Diane, it’s very rough but I must admit, my favourite to do and see. Thank you very much. Many thanks Richard, Linda Ann for your lovely comments. I had a feeling you did Katy, I recognised the landscape from some of your paintings. Thanks very much for your comment.

Love Quink sketches, Fiona, you’ve captured the bleakness of this well.

A very atmospheric sketch, Fiona, great!

Thank you very much Hilary, Jenny, John, Mia for your kind comments.

Just fabulous atmosphere Fiona.

Two words, winter personified! Good one Fiona.

Lovely sketch Fiona.

I like it Fiona, lovely sweeping washes and those delicate grasses -very nice.

Almost missed this one... you’ve certainly been around a bit, travel I’m talking about! A good effort and mark making with a pen Fiona.

The mediums you have used are so effective here Fiona. Love the curve in the road and the scarcity of your marks on this desolate landscape.

Many thanks for your encouraging words, I appreciate your comments very much.

Thank you Carolyn.

Very much the Fens Fiona, you have a good memory. It is very much how i remember them. There is a beauty in the bleakness which you have captured so well. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you Charles. Have fond memories of the fens, the rolling mists, endless quiet lanes with verges teaming with wildflowers, and insects. The most fabulous sunrises and sunsets and being able to witness both from the same point.

Love this sketch Fiona something I should do more of! 👍

Thank you William. It would certainly loosen your hand.....and using Quink ink it bleeds beautifully. This is just scratched on with an old dip pen, then before it dries I’ve run a wet/damp brush over some of the lines and left others sharp. When dry, add a few flicky bits.

👍 thank you Tomasz!

Beautiful and lovely memories Fiona

Helen and Dennis, many thanks to you both.

12”x10” Quink ink rough sketch on Jackson’s rough paper. I lived in the Fens for a few years and hated it to begin with, until I realised how beautiful it could be. Endless horizons, skies that fill your whole view, waterways, pollarded willows and such quiet. From memory.
