Distant shores

An eyecatcher Fiona, stylish and movement, well done.

The combination of pen work and fresh blues in this is really lovely, Fiona.

Many thanks Willie, you will know the area well! Thank you Jenny, appreciate your comment.

Talking on the forum about recognisable styles we may have....I would recognise the sky as yours Fiona, maybe not the sea so much, unless I thought about the " vitality", then I would come back to you again. That sea looks icy!

Margaret, thank you! I’ve just this minute commented on that very thread on the forum Marjorie. The sky is a bit bold isn’t it, over the top perhaps, which yes, is me....lol. I like ‘vitality’, that’s what I would like to achieve in all my stuff! Thank you Marjorie, that’s very constructive feedback x

I think the sky looks in tune with the sea, Fiona. The sea looks choppy and cold, and the sky looks blustery, the same weather mood. It’s very striking, and dynamic. Full of life. Nice work!

Dramatic skies always grab my attention, a good effort here Fiona. Definitely needed that contrasting splash of yellow - a master stroke I’d say!

I can tell you enjoyed painting this beauty Fiona. Good result and Alan's right about the addition of yellow. It just makes it!

Carole, Michael, Alan, Louise your comments are very encouraging to me. I wasn’t sure about continuing on this path of a more looser and semi abstract way of painting. Thank you. Michael it can be wild and cold but not as much as it was up in Assynt, tame in comparison.

I didn’t Michael, with or without my easel....lol. Yes Loch Assynt is a wonderful place, I’ve painted one or two paintings around there, just a ten minute drive for me. That sounds like a good way to travel Michael, I would wait until the snow clears!

Love the wet-in-wet, the colours and the mark making - fabulous.

Anjana, thank you very much for your generous comment.

I love this style and colour. As I live on the Cumbrian side of the Solway I am usually looking across the Solway in the opposite direction. I like the simple pen lines you have added and the looseness of the picture. As a novice this will inspire me, I am sure.

Susan, thank you very much for your lovely comment. You could paint something similar then but of the Galloway coast! Lol. I’m still a novice, in fact I can’t see myself progressing beyond novice...haha.

Just catching up this week. Personally I like "bold" skies.

Thanks Richard!

Like the impressionistic/abstract look.

Thank you very much Maureen, I seem to be heading off into the semi abstract look.

I like this very much Fiona. People talk of style and you've got umpteen of them! All brilliant!! Keep 'em coming.

Lo.....Terry, I know....I wish I could stick to a ‘way’ of painting whatever the medium but I’ve tried and I can’t! It must be so much easier to paint in the same manner, once you’ve worked out what and how you’re going to attack a subject. My paintings all depend on...the subject, my mood, the medium, even the weather! There’s no hope for me I’m afraid. Thank you for your very kind comment, it’s very much appreciated.

Mixed media (watercolour, gouache, conte crayon) in sketchbook. From most points of the Wigtown peninsula you can see distant shorelines....the mull of Galloway, Kirkcudbright, even Cumbria on a good day!
