Yes it sort of worked. I'm not used to working so loosely. It gave quite a gritty feel to the paper. managed to do a pastel wash dark as a ground then put colours on top.

Experimenting. pva glue mixed with bicarb of soda on pastel paper. When dry put a very dark pastel down and added water. then soft pastels in layers.
