Old barns, Sedbergh

A great painting Emma, lovely composition.

How did you paint it that quickly? This would take me 10 times as long. I particularly like the painting of the foreground with its well formed banks of grasses and flowers and the receding track. I don’t like the hit and miss spattering approach to painting meadows but you have not done it this way. Your mark making is considered and effective. I would like to walk to that shady copse beyond the building. My only criticism is that the distant hills could be in more muted tones to suggest distance. An overall lovely painting.

Its lovely Emma, I really like the way you have painted it.

A lovely summery painting Emma. Perhaps the background could be less pronounced to enhance a sense of distance but the foreground is wonderful.

I think this is excellent Emma. For me the distant hills work great because the purple tones in them give a sense of distance. Great work.

A delightful country painting, Emma!

There is a lovely balance of colour in your painting Emma. And So well painted.

Thank you all for the comments and advice - I may blue down the hills on the right once it has dried.

We went for a walk in the Howgill Fells yesterday - steep going, but on the way back was this beautiful little scene; painted this today from one of my photos (don’t think my husband would have appreciated me stopping to sketch after four hours walking!) Water-I’m able oil on paper, 24x32cm
