I cannot remember how I did this. We had a workshop at Salford, years ago and I think it was black gesso on canvas then the medium was rubbed out to make the image. I only managed correctly once. The portrait I left to dry overnight and Sable my black cat walked across it. I didn’t notice until the picture was framed. A bit of texture always helps, doesn’t it to dry
