He’s gorgeous, Margaret. So like Billy who is a show type Cocker Spaniel, but not when he’s full of mud from the park. Beautifully done.

Aww lovely eyes Margaret and his fur is like velvet.

Jake is brilliant Margaret. I know what you mean about the black fur, it is always a problem but I tend to use lots of very dark blue/black.

I think you’ve caught his mischievous nature Margaret. I would think that black fur is the most difficult to recreate, so well done for making an excellent job of it.

Nice one Margaret. I think you have caught that mischievous eye. lol

They can be a handful Margaret, but you will get there eventually. You have captured the spirit of this lively chap beautifully.

Thank you everyone for your very kind comments.

Excellent Margaret. And yes, the eye is so expressive and black is never easy !

Gosh, that's fantastic Margaret, it's looks almost velvety 😆

Thanks so much Rachel, Richard, Linda and Gudrun, I appreciate your kind words.

The velvety effect you've created is splendid and it's overall a great piece Margaret.

Great portrait Margaret.

Margaret, Jake looks adorable. His fur looks so soft. Well done

Thank you Michael, Sandra and Carolyn.

He looks like a lovely chap, well done for getting the detail with the black fur.

Fabulous work Margaret

Many thanks Elaine and Dermot.

He’s stunning Good Luck Margaret I have a Spaniel x and he is like a Duracell’s battery never runs out of energy. Can’t believe this is pencil it’s so well captured. Go Jake!

Thank you Lesley, I hope he will calm down in time!

This is beautiful Margaret - really delicate - I love how you have captured the eye!

Thank you so much Lesley for your very kind comment.

26x36 Coloured Pencil. This is one of my dogs, Jake. He is 17 months old and he is the naughtiest dog we've ever had! He is a working Cocker Spaniel as opposed to a show type cocker who have much longer fur. He is all black which made it more difficult for me to try and capture his image but I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

March 2019 I am self taught, reading from books and watching dvd's and of course YouTube. Watercolour painting was my first love and then I moved on to coloured pencils which I like very much. I have just started using acrylics which are a very different medium but so far I'm enjoying using them…
