  • Rich colour Alan, and moody atmosphere. The reflection makes it all work together.

  • Difficult perspective in this Alan, looking down on the rooftops and then sweeping along the bay, the boat acts well as a stop.

  • Alan this has a beautiful ethereal quality, the diffused distant headland fades into the horizon to give it that seamless effect where sea meets sky.
Your magical touches of light on the foreground buildings, another along the cove and the final one on the far distant buildings, take the eye through to the gorgeous light on the sea.
A wonderful example of putting into practice the use of gathering oil sketches on location, as described in your piece in this months's worth the effort of a 30 minute sketch.
Your explanation and instruction will be invaluable in the future......ever thought of doing a book Alan?!

  • A superb piece Alan and a great composition. So much atmosphere with a great sparkle on the water, smashing!

Thoroughly enjoyed your piece in POL bonus newsletter.

  • Thanks John and Stephen, the boat was an afterthought and yes, it does hold the eye as you say.
Fiona dear, thank you, you have got the PR job, I'm pleased that you found my WIP demo of some interest, and thank you Margaret also for your kind comments on my piece yesterday.

  • Love the stab of light on the cottage but there l terrifically threatening mood to the painting lifted by the highlights. Great picture, Alan

  • Thank you Derek and Willie for those kind words.

  • A beautiful painting, Alan. I like the light in the cottage and the sky and sea merging into one.

  • Thank you Ellen, the light is actually on the cottage itself, not from a window.
