  • Really good work Ibolya, elephants are such majestic animals and you have painted a very good picture of this one.

  • As a watercolourist myself I am not only interested in the outcome, composition etc, but the methods involved, and I am particularly taken with the impression of water spouting from the elephant's trunk. How has this been achieved? Is it preserved paper or have you applied an opaque white?

  • Thanks for your question Philip. I applied masking fluid first, then at a later stage I rubbed this off and softened the hard edges, that the masking left, with a moist brush. Then I painted that subtle colour over it. The dusty area around the foot was rubbed out with a moist brush and paper towel to give that dusty effect. I have not applied any whites, I only do that if I lose a highlight that I cannot recover in any other way. I hope that helps and you can try it out too. Feel free to copy the painting.
