The Cabbage Patch

Comments

These are great looking cabbages with all those contrasting colours, Andrea and so much detail for a small painting.

This really is great, Andrea. Love the bright light on it, lovely composition too.

Like this a lot Andrea, very much like how you've painted this

Love this painting. Great subject and the greens/ purples are wonderful together

Love the originality of your subject matter and the combination of greens and purples. This works so well Andrea and is beautifully painted.

Thanks so much Katy, I went to the NT gardens to see the gardens and wasn’t expecting to be blown away by some cabbages!! It was that stunning colour combination that caught my attention, but then looking further I loved the contrast between the newer green cabbages and the older purple .... then of course there was that lovely light ....

Thank you Mia, bit different to my usual flowery subjects but I loved the colours and really wanted to have a go at painting that lovely light too.

Thank you Heather, I tried to paint them quite loosely (for me) and aimed to stop before I ‘over-cooked’ my cabbages! (lol) I think I just about stopped in time :- )

Thank you so much Diana, sometimes subjects seem to jump up and demand to be painted even when you were having a day off or looking for something else to paint entirely, don’t they. This was one of those times, where I just couldn’t ignore those greens and purples. Thank goodness for mobile phones and the ease of taking a quick reference snap for later on.

Thank you Carole :-) It was lovely to both re-find this image on my phone and to have the opportunity to finally paint it. (Funny to think the cabbages have been eaten since then - I wonder if anyone will recognise them?)

Love the subject and the way you have painted it Andrea.

A splendid piece, Andrea! Love the brushwork and the textures. And the worm-eaten holes are certainly resonating with me right now as I engage in a spot of lock-down veggie gardening!

Thank you Fiona, very kind of you to comment, very much appreciated :- )

That made me smile Seok! So you have lots of worm-eaten subjects for real? I am so jealous right now! Thank you for commenting :- )

Excellent !

Thank you so much Lea :- )

Andrea, many thanks for your recent comments on my work, very much appreciated.

A lockdown painting which I seem to have overlooked posting :-0 One of a ‘virtual travel’ series - painted from a previously-taken reference photo. During a visit to Kingston Lacy National Trust, I came across these cabbages in an allotment area in the walled garden and really loved the contrast of the purple and green cabbages in the sunlight. I kept the holes in the leaves too as I felt gave the older cabbages in the front row their character. Oil on canvas board, 10 x 12 inches.
