Your brush strokes left rough look very effective Alan, super sky.

Superb use of tones and colours Alan - this landscape has everything- I love the energy of the brushwork and the sense of distance........superb!

Lovely painting Alan. I can’t wait for your series on clouds. I thought when I started painting that, I would really into skies, but most of my reference photos seem to have cloudless skies.

Wonderful skies and I really like your use of colour, super painting

Clouds are my favourite, I love this painting, beautiful sky.

Another fine example of how it's done Alan. Lovely work, and not just the skies and clouds.

Works wonderfully, even in thumbnail view - I could happily live with this on my wall - there'd be something refreshing to discover with every viewing. If you're looking at sky painting, there are obviously so many great sky painters: but if you haven't looked up the late Ken Bushe yet, I think you'd find it interesting to do so.

I love the way you’ve captured the light in this Alan. Superb depth too

This is fabulous!

Thanks everyone for your support, it’s always appreciated. Yes Robert, I’m well familiar with his great work. Generally, my skies are what I’ve observed and done rapid oil or often watercolour sketches of at the scene, great reference for my studio paintings such as this one!

Super use of brush marks Alan. A wonderful scene, full of harmony.

Very attractive palette Alan, love the sky especially the hints of pink.

The consummate artist produces yet again, just great Alan!

I love the skies. This is super, Alan. I spend a lot of time gazing at them!

Great markings and colour, Alan - very effective

I really like the colours in this Alan, and the gestural brush strokes in land and sky are so satisfying to look at. It’s a great painting. 40x50cms is a nice size too. Look forward to the article series - your previous one was very interesting to read.

Love the energy, the light and the textural contrasts- it does have everything.

Excellent

I am going to love your cloud series Alan. This one's a beauty.

Colour harmony and composition so effective.

I’m currently working on a series of cloud studies, some of which will form the basis of a two-part feature in The Artist next year ‘Capturing skies and mastering light in oils’. The sky and background was painted using a Rosemary & Co Ivory Long Flat ‘Curved Edge’ size 8 brush - beautifully balanced and perfect for broad positive brushstrokes. I’ve left some brush marks visible, and blended in others with my finger. Oil on board 40 x 50cm.
