I didn’t see the original but this is brilliant, full of depth and richness, a lovely scene.

I really like the textural quality you have got Alan- particularly on the buildings. It really adds to the depth of perspective. Lovely sunlit sky colour too.

You have added meat to this Alan. I agree about the depth, and rich quality of the tones, a beauty Al!

This is wonderful Alan, the way you've painted the walls conveys their formidable structure perfectly, The warm colours contrast beautifully with the cooler shadows and the dabs of light blue are a masterstroke. Is this all brush work or did you use a knife?

Thanks guys, glad you like this version. It’s all painting knife Russell, an opportunity for some serious scumbling to those ancient buildings and walls.

Super painting Alan, I like the cool sky against the warmth of the buildings. it brings back memories when Liz and I sailed into the harbour while teaching on a cruise ship some years ago.

Lovely colours and textures, Alan, and great form to the buildings.

This palette is glorious. Love the textures too

Beautiful colour palette, Alan. I love the contrast between sunlight and shadow: great painting!

I saw the original and liked it, but this is a fabulous development of what was already a good painting.

Formidable buildings rising against that lovely blue sky. A great painting with so much texture.

Spectacular Alan and a great development from the original, by adding a sense of depth and antiquity to this painting.

Great textural study, Alan! Love it! Think I might know this place!!!

Superb textures.

I liked the original Alan and this is even better-can really feel those walls!

Lovely texture and colours, beautiful

It makes me want to visit

Great depth and the texture of your brushwork is really effective.

I like both versions Alan. Brilliant colours and depth.

It is really nice, Alan.

Certainly added texture Alan which enhances the effect beautifully. Just shows, you can never be certain when you've finished!

I posted the original version of this wonderful harbour a few month’s ago, but then decided that it needed a complete revamp. I’ve concentrated on increasing the tonal values by darkening and lengthening the shadows and a colour change to the buildings. I think it’s a big improvement! Oil on board 40 x 50cm. All painting knife work, great for texture!
