View across the Trent Valley

Great winter series Alan.

Another spectacular palette Alan. Particularly love the warm colours in the foreground.

Lots to like here Alan

Full of interest and great color.

A grate landscape Alan, and painted so well.

A lovely landscape, Alan. At the moment a lot of the Trent Valley is just an endless view of floods. The Trent and the Soar have burst their banks and many homes are under water. Fortunately for us, we haven’t been affected, we live on the top of a hill. Roll on spring and summer.

Lovely receding landscape Alan. Like the warmth of it -super painting.

Not bad Al, perhaps a tad too much dark across the mid ground? You have two paintings for the price of one......X

Another beautiful painting Alan.

Well thanks everyone for your positive comments. I’ve noted your observation Fiona, although I don’t entirely agree.

Amazing painting and wonderful palette, Alan.

Like the colours you have used and the marks you have made which make a very striking painting.

It's very difficult sometimes to take a good photo of a painting, and this one - you say the greens haven't come over - I suspect suffers a little from a LOT of blue: I'd love to see it as you intended and painted it, because it's beautifully composed, the little touches of Alan B are all there, delicately painted fencing and the boughs of trees, and of course the sky: never simple, but also never over-complicated or unconvincing.

Deeper tones than your recent snow scenes, in this Alan , very effective, like it.

Just lovely...particularly the hazy recession and loose foreground, Alan

Now, this is strange. I have long known that oil paintings can look very different in different lights; but when I looked at this the other day, and noted Alan's comment about the greens, I thought it does look very blue - today, with a brighter light coming through the window, it looks much less blue-heavy - and I don't think Alan has re-posted the painting.... (though if he has, that would be extremely sneaky of him, not telling us...). Just goes to show how very important the ambient light is in viewing a picture EVEN on a screen.

Really admire your landscapes Alan

Thanks guy’s, greatly appreciated. No Robert, I could be sneaky but I haven’t changed the photo. It’s a dark but pleasing green, well I think so, but the camera, (and it’s a decent one), just can’t handle it! As you know, I’m rarely looking to interpret nature as we see it, that’s not my intention, but neither am I looking for really bluish trees.

Love the effect of the red barns Alan, another excellent effort.

16 x 20in oil on board. Another addition to my series of local scenes. No snow this time, I’ve opted for a simple, uncluttered summer landscape for a change. Just the addition of a couple of loosely blocked-in red barns, which provided a useful complimentary colour. The greens haven't picked up too well on the camera.
