Has anyone tried the new Derwent lightfast oil pencils yet?   Can you use them over oil or acrylic paint?  I'm a bit tempted by them for the finer points in paintings.  I wish they had a portrait selection too?  what do you think?
Looks like no on has!   I'll look 'em up, in the hope of finding something useful to say.  I find it a bit hard to understand how they're going to work in a pencil, but as I've not tried them that's just speculation.
They are coloured pencils that are oil based like polychromos as opposed to wax based like Caran  D  Luminance. I prefer the oil based ones as you can get a "bloom" with the wax ones. I wouldn't think you could use them over oil paint or acrylic successfully but then I'm not very adventurous..  Val Kenyon
I have one single pencil which I think was a freebie from Ken Bromley. It’s very nice and smooth to use, but I’ve never combined it with oils, as I didn’t realise it could be used that way! I don’t think it would work over oils but could be useful if you wanted to draw in pencil before painting. I usually jump straight in with paint.
Thanks for your replies folks.  I will obviously have to buy a few and experiment.
