It is a comprehensive session that aims to give participants essential tips and guidance, provides each person with guidelines to takeaway and furthermore invites each attendee to finish with a unique exhibition action plan.

Presented by the Be Smart About Art Academy this workshop will showcase the Academy Programme for Artists that run its first course in April while the second edition is planned for September-October (for exact dates contact [email protected]). We will cover: •Exhibition options (solo or group with or without an agent, artist collective, curated, juried exhibition, rented gallery, pop-up space, open studio, artist fair); •Setting your budget and creating an exhibition plan; •Sponsorship or funding opportunities (alcohol sponsor, ACE grant, crowd funding campaign); •Critical consideration of location (passing trade, suitable area?); •Reviewing gallery hire or representing gallery offers and terms (is everything included and fair?) and negotiating if applicable; •Consideration of dates (bank holidays, school holidays, lead time etc); •Events to be held during show; •Deciding title and supportive statement; •Selecting / creating art; •Marketing & Press campaign (online and offline – website, email campaign, art websites, facebook invite, twitter, linked in, press release to publications, listings, business cards, postal invitations, letters to clients etc); •Press Release basics (and press aims, if applicable); •Presentation of art (frames, stands, print rack, plastic sleeves); •Pricing of art (key points and frames/presentation); •Exhibition materials (labels, visitors’ book, takeaway materials such as press release or overview); •Brochure/catalogues/invites, price list, numbers for walls; •Installation (curating, how to install, archival considerations, lighting); •Preparing to sell: Invoice, Payment, Discounts, Delivery/Installation; •Preparing and holding events (beverages, staff, hours – and so on); •Selling top tips: Conversations in the exhibition, call to action, how to follow-up; •Follow-up sales (offering viewings and what to have prepared); •Following exhibition: Adding people to mailing list, follow-up email, facebook, twitter; •Exhibition review. …all in 4 hours! The session will be interactive and include a Q&A with the audience, so that you may ask any inndividual questions about organising an art show.
