Pathways
An exhibition of paintings by the artist Catherine Morris. This is her first solo show and the first time that the North Light Gallery has hosted an exhibition by one of its own Art School students
This exhibition entitled "Pathways", is Catherine's first solo showing of her work and it is also the first time that the North Light Gallery has hosted an exhibition by one of its own Art School students. Catherine who lives in Almondbury, has painted on a part-time basis for over 10 years but it was not until she left her job with Kirklees Council in September 2010 that she became a full-time artist. After leaving work Catherine signed up for classes at the North Light Gallery Art School to give her a focus for her art. "It was the injection of energy I got from those classes that launched me into taking my art more seriously" says Catherine. "The encouragement I got from the tutors Anna Todd and Alan Dalgetty and my fellow students made a huge difference and led me into some exciting artwork. The opportunity to have my first solo exhibition in the gallery is a fantastic boost." “The exhibition’s theme of ‘Pathways’ was chosen”, says Catherine, “because I became fascinated with images of paths and tracks leading into the distance, to who knows where? At the same time, I had just left work and was setting off down my own new pathway of painting and wondering where it might lead me. In that sense it is both a descriptive and a symbolic title.” For further information about Catherine's work or the classes at the North Light Gallery visit: www.catherinemorris.co.uk or www.northlightgallery.org.uk
